Job Title: Assistant Maths Hub Lead (Secondary Teaching for Mastery Lead)
Working Pattern: 2 days per week (although this could be a 1 day role split between two people)
Start date: September 2021 (with handover days in June/July 2021)
End date: Contact to be renewed annually subject to DFE funding (Initially July 2022)
Salary: £30,000 p/a based on two days or £15,000 based on 1 day p/a (to be paid in three installments, once a term)
For Teachers: Paid to the host school for teachers’ time
Independent applicants: Paid directly to employee
Purpose: The purpose of this role is to provide oversight of teaching for mastery in secondary schools across the Maths Hub’s area, by leading, developing, and providing expertise for this aspect of the hub’s work. (Hounslow, Hillingdon, Ealing, Brent, Harrow, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington, and Chelsea)

Job Description:
-Work with the Maths Hub Leadership and Management (MHLM) team to plan how the hub addresses the strategic goal for secondary schools
-Participating in MHLM team meetings
-Regularly updating Maths Hub Lead (MHL) on work progress
-Identifying leading teaching for mastery (TfM) schools as potential influencers
-Reporting to the Strategic Board, as required
-Work with the MHLM team to plan and lead meetings with everyone who works for the hub
-Working with the MHL to identify, recruit and appoint future Mastery Specialists
-Providing support to Mastery Specialists and other Work Group Leads (WGLs) through identifying need, planning, facilitating, and evaluating professional development
-Nurturing relationships with Mastery Specialist schools, especially Head Teachers and Heads of Department, to secure sustained commitment to TfM.
-Supporting Mastery Specialists during the development years of their programme (Years 1 and 2) including reviewing gap tasks, completion of the PD Lead accreditation and developing strategies for developing their own department.
-Supporting Mastery Specialists during the Year 3 of their programme (and beyond) when they are acting as WGLs including strategies for supporting the PD of other teachers and supporting departmental developments in other schools
-Overseeing and co-ordinating the work of Mastery Specialists including planning Work Group activity
-Managing the deployment of the Mastery Specialist team
-Overseeing other secondary Work Groups and the work of other secondary Work Group Leads
-Co-ordinating progress reports from Mastery Specialists and other Work Group Leads
-Planning for developments within secondary provision
-Participating in the Secondary TfM Leads peer review process
-Supporting all specialists and other Work Group Leads through the evaluation process.

-Working with school leaders to ensure sustained participation in the Maths Hub offer
-Identifying schools suitable for participation in the Maths Hub’s secondary programme
-Working with the MHL to recruit schools
-Communicating with and influencing headteachers (HTs) and Heads of Department to consider adopting TfM within their schools
-Having an understanding and knowledge of the payments made to specialists and schools
-Participating in Secondary (teaching for mastery lead) TfML forums and the online community
-Collaborating with other Secondary TfMLs across the network
-Option to lead a new national project for Heads of Departments as well as the Sustaining teaching for mastery groups
-Work with the Maths Hub Lead and the Primary Lead to support ITT providers

Person Specification: Essential
Good knowledge of landscape, curriculum, and priorities of Secondary Mathematics
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-Good leadership and people management skills
-Experience of teaching Secondary Maths
-Experience of delivering mathematics CPD
-Strong networking skills
-Being able to manage/work with a team not on the same site

Desirable
-Based in a school/college with excellent Secondary practice
-Successful track record of working effectively with other professionals across a range of Secondary schools
-Track record of Secondary Maths leadership in department
